They’re here to make sure The Macomb Group is a great place to work.

Who is HR?
Monica Howe, HR Director, Anita Chase and Chelsie Schulte, HR Associates, are the three hard-working ladies who make up the HR Department. If you’ve ever had a question about insurance, benefits, or payroll, you’ve likely talked to one of them.

The Macomb Group is reactivating the Safety Committee! This committee is comprised of people from all areas of The Macomb Group (management, finance, HR, and the warehouse), and it meets once a month to review and quickly correct safety issues.

We’ll let you know when these meetings start again, but here’s how we want you to get involved:

  • Encourage open communication. Employees are the ones who see and are most affected by safety issues, so let us know if you see something dangerous.
  • Remember: You have the power to make safety happen! Management can’t be everywhere at all times, so be proactive about keeping yourself and your coworkers safe.
  • Take safety issues to your immediate supervisor. If it’s a quick fix, it’ll be taken care of right away.
  • For anything that is a bigger fix, contact Monica Howe. The Safety Committee will ensure your concerns are addressed and corrected in a timely way.

But even if you’ve never spoken with Monica, Anita, or Chelsie, they’ve been busy taking care of you. From getting new employees on board to handling all things insurance, they’re proactively involved in overseeing all employee-related matters.

“We all work pretty hard in this department,” Monica says. “We’re hands-on, we get a lot of phone calls, and we deal with a lot of stuff both in person and over the phone. It doesn’t matter if you’re in Grand Rapids or Kentucky. We treat everyone the same here!”

Although their jobs overlap, each individual has a few areas of focus:

  • Monica oversees everything in addition to handling disciplinary or personal issues that crop up. She also takes care of The Macomb Group’s payroll and is spearheading the Safety Committee.
  • Anita takes care of the insurance entries, including adding new employees and making changes and additions. She’s also the mastermind behind the 401k administration and the payroll for our R.L. Bondy insulation division.
  • Chelsie gets new hires set up into the payroll system within the first day or two they’re on board. She also gets them all the appropriate insurance paperwork and information and processes workmen’s comp claims.

Regardless of their individual skillsets, Monica, Anita, and Chelsie all share one common goal: They’re here to help you in any way they can.

“We obviously work for the company, but I feel that we also work for the employees,” Monica says.

Monica adds that there are several avenues available for answering questions and staying on top of your personal information:

  • Give us a call: They may be busy, but HR wants to hear from you! If you call or email Monica, Anita, or Chelsie, they’ll get back to you quickly. “We try to get back to everyone fast. Most of the time it will be the same day,” Monica says.
  • Ask us anything (really!): From simple to complex, many people don’t know that HR can help them in a lot of different areas. “For example, every year we try to get the best insurance coverage at the best cost for the company and for the employees,” Monica says. “This year we made a lot of changes, which can be confusing, but we can help you with that! If you get a medical bill that you don’t think is right, call us.”
  • Check out the ADP online portal: You can make simple changes on your own securely and quickly. All you need to do is log in to the online portal. Simply use the passcode macombgrp-ess, and then enter the identification information requested. From there, you can see all of your information, get quick answers, print forms such as pay-statements, and even make simple changes like the number of withholding exemptions, changing your address, or updating your emergency contacts.
